FAISALABAD, April 23: Former National Assembly speaker Syed Fakhar Imam has said the unification of different political parties will prove an eyewash after the fall of the Musharraf government.

Speaking to the participants in a seminar held at a local hotel, the former speaker accused President Pervez Musharraf of disgracing parliament to prolong his rule. He said Gen Musharraf held dialogues with the politicians out of parliament and got the 17th Amendment approved within no time, which was a stigma on the country's democratic institutions.

Former MNA Begum Abida Husain said open trade with India wouldn't suit Pakistan for various reasons. She said the president had announced a seven-point agenda immediately after his take-over, but he failed to implement it.

According to Lahore High Court Bar Association President Ahmad Awais, the LFO was made part of the constitution in clear violation of the rules. A grand assembly of lawyers would try the violators, he pledged.
