KHAIRPUR, May 2: The price of wheat flour has gone up to Rs16 per kg from Rs12 per kg throughout the district during the last two days despite the availability of ample wheat stock.

Daily-wagers told journalists on Sunday that wheat had been supplied to atta chakki owners in the district yet the rate had gone up by Rs4 per kg because of which poor people were facing hardships.

Sugar price had also increased from Rs18 per kg to Rs22 per kg, they added. When contacted, District Nazim Nafisa Shah said that an inquiry committee would be formed to probe the cause of the recent price-hike.

WATER CRISIS: Residents of some 40 colonies and Mohallas of the town are facing hardships due to acute shortage of potable water. They told journalists during a protest demonstration on Sunday that shortage of drinking water was being experienced in Dabbar, Bhurghari, Panj Hati, Osta Gahi, Godo Shop, Meer Ali Bazaar, Tapali and Kalhora Ghatis and other areas since last week.

They said that they had filed their complaint with the taluka council administration three times but to no avail and added that they were purchasing water from private suppliers.

MILAD PLANS: The district administration as well as the police have taken strict security measures for the procession of 12th Rabiul Awal on Monday (today). Heavy police contingents have been deployed at all main points, particularly the Luqman area, while patrolling has also been intensified.

ARREST DEMANDED: The president, Millat-i-Islamia Pakistan, Maulana Ali Sher Hyderi, has said that police have not arrested killers of his father Haji Mohammad Waris despite lapse of eight days. He was speaking at a press conference here on Friday.
