HYDERABAD, May 7: Power breakdowns in the Hirabad sub-division of Hesco continued unabated on Thursday night and Friday. People had to suffer as the temperature shot up to 45.5 degree Centigrade. People complained that power disruptions had become a routine matter.

The residents said that there had been erratic power supply in the sub-division and the situation had not improved despite they had made several complaints to Hesco.

Qurban Ali Chohan, a lawyer by profession, told this correspondent by telephone that to keep regular power supply to the Cantonment area and Sadar, Hesco authorities resorted to shutdowns in the Hirabad sub-division.

He said that their complaints were not being entertained. He said that the area from the Rail Road, Prince Ali, up to the Seroghat Road remained without power on Thursday night and Friday.

A resident of the Market Tower area, Salman Ahmad, quoted a Hesco official as saying that power disruption in the sub-division occurred due to overloading. On the contrary, he said, main bazaars in the Cantonment area and Sadar received regular power supply.

A shopkeeper of the Tilak Incline, Mohammad Ali, said that they had to bear additional fuel expenses of generator due to disruptions in power supply. When contacted, the SDO, load dispatch centre, Shahid Qureshi, confirmed that the Hala Road grid station was closed from 9:15am to 1pm for changing conductors in the Hirabad sub-division.

He said that existing cables could not bear the load of power that was why they were changed. He said that now there would be no disruption in power supply. The temperature in Hyderabad remained at 45.5 degree Centigrade at the maximum and 27.5 at the minimum, said a Met observatory official.
