OKARA, May 7: Deepalpur police have arrested three policemen for detaining and torturing a youth to death. According to reports reaching here, the Deepalpur city police arrested Rab Nawaz (20) in a cattle lifting case about 10 days ago. On Wednesday, he was found dead in the lock-up.

The parents of the deceased alleged he had died from torture in custody whereas police said Nawaz had committed suicide. Sheikhupura range DIG Syed Saqlain Shah visited Deepalpur on Thursday and recorded the statements of the other detainees in the presence of Deepalpur DSP Rana Ahmad Hasan.

According to the primary autopsy conducted by a medical board of the Okara DHQ Hospital, Rab Nawaz's body bore marks of violence, with signs of strangulation on his neck.

The board has referred the two specimens of the body parts to the government laboratory in Lahore to ascertained the exact cause of the death. Police have booked and arrested sub-inspector and Deepalpur city SHO Muhammad Afzal Khan, ASI Muhammad Aslam and constable Ameer under section 342 PPC and 155-156 Police Act.

Road Accident: Three of a family died while three sustained injuries when their car overturned near Chak 45/GD on the Sahiwal-Faisalabad Road. The family was returning to Minchinabad after attending a marriage in a village.

Their car (BNA-9211) overturned and Mudassar, his wife Sabiha Mudassar and father Lal Muhammad died on the spot while three children Rashda Mudassar, Rabia Mudassar and Shahida sustained injuries and were shifted to a local hospital.

DPO INJURED: DPO (Okara) Syed Zafar Abbas Bokhari sustained injuries on his way to Okara from Lahore at night when his official car was hit by a speedy truck on the GT Road, near Phoolnagar.

The DPO had his forearm fractured and shoulder dislocated. He was shifted to hospital where he underwent surgery. His condition is stated to be stable. The Phoolnagar police have impounded the truck and arrested the driver.
