SUKKUR, May 20: An apparently deranged robber was arrested after shooting a wagon driver dead and injuring three others besides looting a couple of persons here on late Saturday night.

The robber, Ashiq, resident of Waritar, Sukkur, at gunpoint robbed Mohammad Yousuf Memon, Arif Memon and Mohammad Azim Memon of Rs20,000, wrist watches, gold rings and a mobile phone at Nishter Road.

Later, he came to Waritar and intercepted a wagon driver Munir Ahmed Memon and tried to loot him. He shot the driver dead when he offered resistance.

When a passerby, Mohammad Salim Farooqi, tried to chase the accused, he also shot at and injured him.

He then came to Sukha Talab and tried to rob caretaker of the shrine of Qazi Baba. As resistance was offered, he opened fire and injured him and another person, Abdul Wahab, and fled.

He also opened fire on the police when they tried to chase him.

The police arrested him when his pistol became empty.

The police said that the accused was obviously mentally sick as he went on his robbing and shooting spree on foot.
