MULTAN, May 9: The situation on the Okara Military Farms once again became tense between the farm management and the tenants on Sunday when the former reportedly attempted to take over the disputed lands with the help of a heavy police contingent.
Reports said that a team of the farm management, led by some senior military officials entered Chak 15/4-L allegedly to get the lands vacated from the possession of tenants.
The tenants are now demanding ownership rights, claiming that they have been cultivating the lands for nearly a century. However, hundreds of people belonging to tenants' families from various villages of the farms rushed to the spot to forestall the attempt. At this, the farm management reportedly called police.
But, the troops could not convince the tenants who refused to retreat. After a three-hour long stand-off with none of the parties inclined to withdraw from their positions, the farm management finally decided to leave the matter for another time.
