HYDERABAD, May 10: The Sindh Textbook Board has claimed that it has begun delivery of textbooks to district governments of Sindh from May 6, which are to be distributed free of cost amongst primary students.
In a statement issued here on Monday, board chairman Mushtaq Ahmed Qureshi said that district governments of Sukkur, Ghotki and Nawabshah had received textbooks and the remaining district governments would receive them by May 26.
He said that three vigilant teams had been constituted to monitor and expedite printing of textbooks and ensure their timely delivery to the board and ultimately to the district governments.
SU EXAMS: The first and second semester examinations in the University of Sindh began at the Jamshoro campus on Monday. Thirty-four examination centres have been established at different departments and institutes of the university.
The university authorities with the help of the local administration have adopted strict security measures at the examination centres.
HYDERI MOSQUE: Activists of Shia community led by Kazim Shah Naqvi, Nizamul Haideri, Moazzam Kazim Shah, Nasir Abbas Jafri and others staged a token hunger strike outside the press club here on Monday.
They were protesting against the Hyderi mosque carnage in Karachi. MMA leaders Maulana Waheed Qureshi, Maulana Taj Mohammad Nahiyoo and Maulana Azam Jahangiri also joined the hunger strike to express solidarity with the Shia community.
They demanded that Allama Sajid Naqvi should be provided protection, perpetrators of Hyderi mosque carnage should be arrested and publicly hanged and the network of terrorists should be destroyed. They demanded that the Karachi administration should be dismissed and bereaved families should be paid adequate compensation.
ACTION COMMITTEE: Leaders of the Qasimabad Action Committee, Mehboob Abro, Rasool Bux Shaikh, Qazi Sattar, Nusrat Channa and others staged a token hunger strike outside the press club to protest against the alleged murder of Hubdar Laghari at the hands of police in an alleged encounter a few months back.
Talking to newsmen, the chairman of the action committee, Mehboob Abro threatened to launch a protest movement against the police failure to arrest police officers who were allegedly involved in the murder of Hubdar Laghari. He said it was an irony that the police officer involved in the alleged murder had been given promotion.
