OKARA, May 11: The Cantonment police on Tuesday registered a case against 72 tenants in the village 15/4L incident. The case has been registered on the report of a retired hawaldar, Muhammad Ashiq, supervisor of the 82-acre land.

The ex-armyman alleged that two days back when he went to water the fields with some other personnel, Altaf and Aslam made an announcement on the amplifier asking the tenants to assemble.

Consequently, dozens of men, women and children gathered there and chanted slogans against the government and blocked the road by throwing trees, Ashiq said in the report.

Police have booked Altaf, Aslam, Ramzan, Abdul Sattar, Mukhtar Ahmad, Abdul Ghafoor, Gulzar, Jafar, Iftikhar, Qasim, Ghulam Rasool, and nominated 35 unidentified men and 25 women.

In another case, the Renala Khurd police booked two tenants on the report of military farms in charge. Nazir Ahmad, a resident of 23/1R3, and Muhammad Ashraf Bhutta, a resident of 20/1RB, have been accused of constructing houses on the farm land.

Meanwhile, the Anjuman-i-Mazareen Punjab (AMP) have declared to continue their struggle on the eve of the first anniversary of tenant Ameer, who died last year during a clash with military farms administration in village 5A/4L.

AMP chairman Younis Iqbal Masih, district president Riaz Kamboh, secretary general David Zahid, and others said that they were ready for a dialogue only on ownership or death.
