SIALKOT, May 11: More than 8,500 students of 40 government primary schools in four union councils, Kamalpur, Gadgor, Kapurpur and Seowal, have been studying in the worst situation.

According to the local people, the main problem of these schools is shortage of teachers and classrooms. It is learnt that around 200 students have been studying in a classroom. There are 500 students in a class of Government Boys Primary School, Seowal.

The schools in Maaliyaanwali, Kamonkey Khurd, Jabbokey and Punan villages have no buildings and the students are forced to get education in open grounds adjacent to fields under the hot sun.

According to Sialkot education department record, there are no English teachers in the above mentioned schools, 34 schools have no boundary walls, while the buildings of several schools are in dilapidated condition.

LASER LEVELLING: The Sialkot district government has purchased 27 laser land levelling machines at a cost of Rs20 million. This was stated by district Nazim Mian Naeem Javaid while addressing a meeting of growers in Bajwat on Tuesday.

The Nazim hoped that by using the laser machines production would also increase. He said the forest department has set up new nurseries where plants would be sold for paisas 50 each.

He said the district government had allocated Rs20 million more for providing modern farm machinery to farmers. He said Rs111 million had been earmarked for the completion of ongoing projects of farm to market roads in the district. Besides, the government had released Rs5 million for the development of livestock, he added.

DCO Syed Tahir Raza Naqvi said the district government had so far completed 29 farm to market roads at a cost of Rs83 million in addition to spending Rs42.5 million on the construction and repair of 47 roads. The district government had also released Rs150 million for the timely completion of all ongoing development schemes in the district, he added.
