SUKKUR, May 13: A single bench of the Sindh High Court, Sukkur circuit, comprising Justice Zia Pervaiz, has issued notices to 13 people, including DPO Sukkur, to appear in the court on May 17.

They were summoned on a petition filed by Shazia, wife of Ehsan Ali, against the holding of a jirga in violation of the SHC verdict. Advocate Shabbir Shar represented the petitioner.

Others who were subpoenaed by the court include TPO and SHO Site police, Gahi Khan, Nazeer Ahmed, Shahzado, Abdul Sattar, Manzoor Ahmed, Mohammad Bux, Ali Mardan, Behram Khan, Taj Mohammad and Gulzar Ahmed.

According to the petition, a jirga was held on April 29 at Arab Shaikh village in the limits of Site police under the supervision of Gulzar Ahmed. The petitioner said that the above mentioned men, excluding police officials, had compensated a matter of free will marriage of Samina Shaikh and Khadim Shaikh by giving the hand of Nargis, 14, to Nazeer Ahmed.

While the jirga solemnized Nikah of Baby Babra with Waseem, 4, which was a crime under the Child Marriage Restraint Act 1929. The petitioner prayed to the honourable court to send the jirga holders to jail for disobeying the verdict of the honourable court.

KILLED: A man was killed by a 'mysterious' gunshot wound in the Soomar Channar village, near Kandiaro, Naushahro Feroze district, on Thursday. Sikandar, 26, son of Mohammad Ismail Channar, died after sustaining a gunshot injury in his abdomen.

His body was handed over to relatives after autopsy at the Kandiaro Taluka hospital. Hospital sources claimed that the man committed suicide while relatives remained tight-lipped. The police are investigating the matter.

SUICIDE: A person tried to commit suicide in Abejano village near Kandhra, Sukkur district, on Thursday. Abdul Ghaffar, 28, son of Azeem Noonari, tried to commit suicide by cutting his throat with a knife.

He was shifted to the Sukkur Civil Hospital in a critical condition. Motive behind the attempted suicide was ascertained immediately but withheld for some reasons.
