KHAIRPUR, May 26: The Sui Southern Gas Company's 16-inch diameter Indus Left Bank Pipeline (ILBP) has been repaired and the gas supply was restored at 4pm on Wednesday, said a press release issued here by the company.

The pipeline was damaged by a bomb blast at the Veho Wah overhead canal crossing on the Nawabshah section of the ILBP in Khairpur district. The gas supply to Padidan, Mehrabpur, Sitharja, Ranipur, Rohri and Sukkur had been started after purging and pressuring, and the emergency situation was now over, said the press release.

About 35 engineers and other technical staff, who had been called from Karachi, started the repair work at about 12 noon on Tuesday and completed the job at 2pm on Wednesday.

A 200-foot-long, 16-inch dia piece of pipeline, which had been badly damaged, was replaced. On the request of the SSGC, the Irrigation Department had reduced the flow of water into the Veho Wah canal to facilitate the repair work.

The spokesman for the SSGC regretted the inconvenience caused to the people of the affected towns during the disruption in the supply of gas.
