HYDERABAD, May 27: The Ustad Dost Ittehad has accused Sindh Education Minister Irfanullah Marwat of destroying the education system of the province.

Speaking at a news conference at the press club here on Thursday, Amanullah Khan Teghani and Mohammad Qasim Pathan, leaders of the Ittehad, an alliance of the All Sindh Masjid School Teachers Association and the Mehran Elementary and Secondary Teachers Association, said that several schools had no teachers.

They regretted that despite a ban on transfers, a new method of 'adjustment' was being adopted which was a violation of the ban. They said that teachers were being appointed in schools temporarily as a result of which the education standard was deteriorating.

They also criticized leaders of some teachers' organizations who they accused of entering into an agreement with the minister over teachers' children appointment quota. The Ittehad leaders said that according to this agreement, teachers' children would be given jobs only if a teacher expired while on duty.

REINSTATEMENT DEMANDED: The Teachers Action Committee has demanded that the Sindh government should reinstate 136 women primary teachers of the Hyderabad city.

Speaking at a news conference at the press club here on Thursday, action committee chairperson Rukhsana Yasmin, secretary Nazia Faiz Mohammad, Sobia Naz and Sarwat Niaz said that 191 women teachers of the city were sacked on June 6, 1998.

They said that a committee, constituted by District Nazim, recommended reinstatement of the teachers. They said that the teachers were asked to appear before the SPSC which recommended reinstatement of 55 teachers.
