HYDERABAD, May 30: The district and sessions judge has allowed former workers of the Zeal Pak Cement Factory to lodge FIRs against the factory management for non-payment of their dues.
The workers, Raheem Badshah, Iqbal Begum, widow of Mohammad Yousuf, and Fehmida, widow of Basheeruddin, had filed separate human rights applications before the judge, Zaheeruddin S. Leghari, who is also the director of the Human Rights Board Authority, Hyderabad. They had complained that they were issued cheques under the golden handshake scheme but the cheques were been bounced.
NLF: Sindh National Labour Federation president Rana Mehmood Ali Khan has demanded that the Industrial relations Ordinance, 2002, and the Compulsory Retirement Ordinance should be repealed. He was talking to workers and leaders of affiliated units of the federation at the NLF office here on Saturday.
Mr Khan further demanded that in the ensuing federal budget, salaries of government employees should be increased by 50 percent and workers of the private sector should be given Rs500 per month dearness allowance. He called for a ban on privatization and retrenchment of workers.
DEMO: Residents of Sehrish Nagar, Qasimabad, here on Sunday held a protest demonstration outside the press club against non-supply of drinking water to people of the area.
Speaking on the occasion, Khamiso Chandio, Jehangir Subhopoto and Hafeez Qureshi said that the water supply line of Sehrish Nagar had been cut by law-enforcement agencies. They warned that they would stage a protest sit-in on the Kotri Bridge if water supply to the area was not restored in 24 hours.
