GUJRANWALA, May 30: PPP leader district Naib Nazim Haji Gohar Zaman was arrested by police in connection with an abduction case here on Sunday. Reports said Mr Zaman and his men were booked in two cases a few months ago but the police could not arrest them.

On Sunday, he was inaugurating a cable network office in the Sabzi Mandi locality when the police arrested him and shifted him to the Model Town police station. In the meantime, the PPP office-bearers reached the police station and protested against the arrest.

However, the police did not allow anybody to enter the building. According to the FIR, a woman was abducted from the city whom the police recovered from tribal area.

DISMISSED: As many as six sanitary workers of Kamoki municipal administration were dismissed from service while a dozen others were issued show-cause notices on Saturday by the tehsil Nazim on charges of negligence and inefficiency.

The tehsil Nazim paid a surprise visit to various localities in the town and expressed his displeasure over poor cleanliness. He dismissed Riaz, Munir, Naeem, Yaqoob, Pervaiz and Amjed Anwer from the service on the charge of not performing their professional duties and issued show-cause notices to about a dozen sanitary workers.

The assailants also ransacked the office furniture and later released him. Reports said Chaudhary Muhammad Rafiq and his brother Chaudhary Muhammad Shafiq were present at their factory when Rana Abdul Samad, Muhammad Aslam with his accomplices came and ransacked the office furniture and other equipment.

They allegedly abducted Chaudhary Muhammad Shafiq and took away a cash of Rs150,000. After two hours, they threw him along the bank of Upper Chenab Canal after getting his signature on a blank paper. Police have registered a case under Sections 380, 342, 427, 337 HT, 148 and 149 of PPC.
