HARIPUR, May 31: Residents of the Khoe Maira village, including women, have threatened to block the Khanpur-Taxila road in protest against the persisting water shortage in the area.

The residents said that about 3,000 people of the village faced acute difficulties due to shortage of drinking water for the last one week. The situation has badly affected the women, particularly children, who have to bring water from the Khanpur reservoir, which is about one kilometre away.

Some villagers say the entire population is being supplied water from Nain Sukh tube-well which is about two kilometres from the village. They further say that due to the low pressure of water, most of the residents could not get the water.

They accused officials concerned of not taking action against those who had taken illegal connections from the main pipeline. A villager, Iqbal, told newsmen that if the water supply to Khoe Maira was not restored within 48 hours, the women and children would block the Khanpur-Taxila road.
