SAHIWAL, June 1: Traders and lawyers of Chichawatni observed strike on Tuesday against the rising incidence of robberies. A protest procession was also reportedly taken out. The main bazaars and markets remained closed.

The lawyers' community, including the bar office-bearers, boycotted the courts. They demanded suspension of the negligent police officers for the poor law and order.

DOUBLE MURDER: Two people were killed and one sustained injuries on Tuesday evening in a bid to take possession of a piece of land in Chak 21/14-L. Reports said that the relatives of Alam Sher hired a Qabza group to occupy his land.

When they went to take possession of the land, a two-hour long encounter took place between the Qabza group and the owner Alam Sher group. As a result, Saleem and Zafar of the Qabza group were killed on the spot while Fayyaz Ahmed sustained injuries.

Two men of Alam Sher were also injured. Shah Kot police have registered a case and arrested seven people of both the parties. Meanwhile, two people were murdered on Tuesday in Harappa area in separate incidents.

Liaqat Ali gunned down Traij Ahmad on a marriage dispute at Mauza Drinda Sandana. In Chak 104/7-R, Amir and his three accomplices stabbed Hatim to death. Police have registered separate cases under Section 302/34 of the PPC.

ACCIDENT: A youth was run over and killed by a speeding bus near the Sahiwal Press Club on Tuesday. Mohsin Rehmani, a class IX student, was going along the road when the bus (BR-8075) ran over him. He died on the spot.

DIES: PML-Q district secretary-general M Latif Mughal, ex-MPA, died of heart attack here on Tuesday. He was the elder brother of MPA Sagheera Islam. Mr Mughal was laid to rest in the Noor Park graveyard.
