PHF chief eyes gold in Athens

KARACHI, June 1: President of Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) Gen. Muhammad Aziz Khan hopes to see Pakistan team strike gold in Athens Olympics and says "we are giving players the best possible international exposure to keep them in top shape" in order to achieve the target.

The PHF boss told reporters at the Hockey Club of Pakistan Stadium on Tuesday before he watched Europe-bound Pakistan team now training under Dutch chief coach Roelant Oltmans, "our efforts are aimed at clinching gold in Olympics."

He said, "We have taken care of every aspect of the sport and the upcoming European tour is also part of build-up for Athens Olympic." They will be playing against strong teams during the tour which will give them an opportunity to get into best of the shape".

He said that the team had been provided with best technical support to prepare for world's biggest sporting extravaganza. "I am fully satisfied with the team's preparations," he said. The PHF had launched a programme to prepare the team for Olympics three years ago. "We are now close to our target," he reiterated. -APP
