DADU, June 3: Drigh Bala Union Council Nazim Sikandar Khan Leghari has said that about 3,000 families have shifted from the Kachho belt to other areas in search of drinking water and food and fodder for their cattle.

He was speaking at a seminar on "Miseries of Kachho People and their Solution", organized by the Kachho Cultural and Development Organization in Johi on Thursday.

Mr Leghari said that funds provided by donors to some NGOs for providing facilities to people of Kachho had not been utilized for the purpose. Johi Union Council Nazim Mohammad Usman Jamali said that historical places of the district wore a deserted look due to negligence of the department concerned.

He alleged that influential people had encroached upon costly lands and properties of historical places. Kachho Cultural Development Organization president Pir Bux Babar said that it was the responsibility of the district administration and the tourism department to ensure preservation and development of neglected tourist places, including Gorakh hill station, Manchhar Lake, Gaj Bungalow, Rani Kot Fort, Amri Ja Dara and Bado Jabal.

He observed that a drought-like situation was prevailing in Kachho and people had started migrating to other places. He demanded that the government should resolve problems confronting the area people.

DEMO: A large number of residents of different villages held a demonstration in Johi to protest against shortage of drinking water in the villages. Speaking on the occasion, Qadir Bux Rustamani, Mian Bux Rustamani and Niaz Hussain said that the villages had been experiencing water shortage for five days.
