QUETTA, June 6: The leader of opposition in the National Assembly, Maulana Fazlur Rehman, has warned that if President Musharraf did not abide by the agreement between the MMA and the government, it will invite crisis.

Speaking at a public meeting at Sadiq Shaheed football ground on Sunday, the central leader of Muttahida Majlis Amal criticized nationalists for backing US aggression in Afghanistan besides demanding new Constitution to pave the way for secular system in the country.

Mohammad Akram Durrani chief minister NWFP, MNA Maulana Abdul Ghafoor Haidri, MNA Maulana Mohammad Khan Sherani, MNA Hafiz Hussain Ahmed and others also addressed the gathering.

Maulana Fazl asserted President Musharraf according to constitutional requirements had to keep one office either presidentship or COAS after December 31, 2004 and maintained that if he deviated from it the country would face serious situation that would not be in the interest of the country.

He claimed that the president and his agencies were involved to flare up Wana issue, disturbance in Karachi, inciting sectarianism and creating disharmony among various sections of the people in order to justify retaining uniform.

The MMA leader claimed that they did not want to create disorder but the president was attempting to undermine the Constitution by saying that secularism did not confront Islam. He said the Constitution bound the rulers to run the country through Islamic injunctions.

He also lashed out that at nationalists that were accusing the MMA for supporting military ruler. He said that a nationalist party in NWFP changed eyeglasses with the passage of time.

Maulana Fazl rejected the demand of Ponam to frame new Constitution, as the existing statute was not workable and maintained that nationalists want to create 1970-like situation.

The meeting passed several resolutions and one of it stressed upon the government to accept the proposals of the NWFP and Balochistan suggestions for the NFC formula. Another resolution condemned the Wana operation and demanded to abandon it immediately. It also condemned the FC and coast guard excesses in Balochistan.
