SAHIWAL, June 7: Civic agencies in several cities of the Punjab had their work cut out on Monday after Sunday night's windstorm that uprooted trees, hoardings and electric poles.

In Sahiwal, roofs of several Kutcha houses were blown away by the storm. Telephone and electricity networks were badly damaged. Two people were reported killed and four seriously injured. Traffic on roads was suspended due to the felling of trees. Electricity in some areas was restored after 15 hours.

Uprooted trees blocked the highway linking Faisalabad for five hours. On Sahiwal-Pakpattan road five cotton factories caught fire during the storm. Traffic on this road also remained suspended for four hours.

TOBA TEK SINGH: Heavy windstorm uprooted hundreds of trees, electric and telephone poles in the district on Sunday night. It was followed by heavy rain which brought the mercury down. Power supply and telephone system could not be restored even on Monday.

SHEIKHUPURA: Windstorm and heavy rain claimed the lives of a man and a woman. Surraya Bibi of Burj Atari died under the debris of her house. In Nain Sukh, Ismail died when a tree fell on him.
