HYDERABAD, June 10: The Asian Human Rights Commission, Shikarpur chapter, has appealed to the president, the Sindh governor and the provincial police officer to take notice of murder case of a man and woman who were killed on the pretext of Karo-kari in the Ali Mohammad Lund village, Shikarpur district, on May 31.

In a statement faxed to Dawn on Thursday, Iqbal Detho of the Amnesty International and Asian Human Rights Commission said that the murder of Manzoor Ahmed and Begum had taken place in the same district where two cousins Abida and Tehmina Bhutto were killed a few months back.

He said the case was not registered by the SHO concerned due to the influence of a local chieftain who had pressurized the police and families of victims. Mr Detho said that human rights groups approached DPO Khamiso Memon who directed the SHO Jagan police station to register the case.

He said that the case was eventually registered on June 3, vide FIR (26/04) under section 302, 201 and 34 PPC. Mr Detho said that bodies of the victims have not been recovered as yet as the villagers and the family members were under tremendous pressure of the chieftain.

He urged the authorities to conduct a thorough investigation into the double murder and recover the bodies without delay.
