GUJRANWALA, June 13: The district and city tehsil governments have directed advertisement agencies to remove large billboards from the GT Road and other parts of the city and warned that all those not removed within a week would be destroyed.

Sources said the chief minister had taken serious note of the death of more than a dozen people in Lahore and other parts of the province due to large billboards during wind storms and directed all district governments to remove the same from crowded places.

HOUSING: The Punjab government has banned the use of agricultural land for commercial housing schemes and sought details of such colonies from the housing department, it was learnt here on Sunday.

Sources said that colonies were being constructed on land known for producing quality rice and wheat. Some of the colonies were being constructed on the Sialkot Road on land where rice known all over the world for its quality was grown. People were also being fleeced in the name of bogus housing schemes near cities and towns.

MAN KILLED: A union council Naib Nazim and his men allegedly killed a father-of-six over an adda fee dispute at Mukhal Sundhawan. The deceased, Riasat Ali, was collecting adda fee at a wagon stand when Naib Nazim Ijaz alias Mitho and his men exchanged hot words with him, opened fire on him and escaped, it was alleged.

The Ferozewala police removed the body to the DHQ hospital for an autopsy. A murder case was registered against the accused with no arrest.
