HYDERABAD, June 16: The district chapter of the Government Secondary Teachers Association, at a meeting on Wednesday, decided to besiege offices of district accounts officer and additional accounts officer on June 21 to protest against their refusal to adjust differences in pay bills.
District president of the association, Safar Memon, presided over the meeting which was also attended by office-bearers from talukas of the district. Expressing anger over the officials' apathy, the teachers alleged that despite clear instructions from the Sindh finance department, the accounts officers of the district were creating hurdles to pass the bills.
The meeting observed that if the bills were not passed, the budget of Rs120 million would go waste. The meeting noted that officials concerned had already been informed about the situation but no action had been taken in the matter.
The meeting said that under the circumstances, the teachers were left with no alternative but to "Gherao" the office of the district accounts officer on June 21. The meeting warned that the teachers would not call off protest unless their genuine demand was accepted.
