HYDERABAD, June 17: The district health coordination committee on Wednesday discussed in detail the water contamination crisis and decided that Wasa would ensure supply of safe drinking water to users and control water-borne diseases.

DCO Mohammad Hussain Syed presided over the meeting. It was decided that water samples would be taken from 10 different places daily which would be tested to assess the percentage of chlorine and other chemicals.

It also decided to arrange health and hygienic education sessions at all health facilities and schools. The DCO assured the people that all possible steps were being taken to provide safe water to the people.

He said that the district government had decided to upgrade filter plants to ensure that drinking water was supplied to the people as per WHO standards.

EDO HEALTH: EDO health Nazar Mohammad Junejo has said that chlorine tablets have been distributed by field workers in homes in the city, Latifabad and Qasimabad limits to ensure safe drinking water to the people.

In a statement issued on Thursday, he said that the people were being provided necessary information about water at every health centre. He said that the best way to make the water safe was to boil it at least for 20 minutes.

He said that emergency had been declared at all health centres in view of the monsoon season and necessary medicines had also been supplied.

COMPENSATION: The EDO, revenue, has advised the legal heirs of those, who have died due to consumption of contaminated water, to immediately approach the respective taluka Mukhtiarkars or Darbar Hall of the EDO.

According to an announcement, the EDO has asked them to furnish their addresses and required documents for consideration of their cases for compensation.

The deceased persons whose addresses are not available with the EDO are Nasreen, resident of Shaikh Bhirkio, Tando Mohammad Khan taluka; Aliza, resident of Hyderabad; Ghulam Mustafa, son of Ishtiaque, resident of Katcha Qila; Azeem, son of Asif, resident of Supari Compound, Pathan Colony; Tahira, daughter of Mohammad Ali, resident of Hirabad; Amna, daughter of Shahjahan, resident of Latifabad-11; Mohammad Sameer, son of Mohammad Salman, resident of Latifabad-8, and an unidentified child of Hameed Bukhsh, resident of Matiari taluka.

SECTION 144: District Nazim Makhdoom Rafiquzzaman has under section 144 CrPC banned the keeping of cattle in the limits of city, Latifabad and Qasimabad for health reasons and with a view to protecting the sewerage system. This order will remain in force for seven days.
