SWABI, June 21: Owners of private schools have not closed their institutions for the summer vacation despite a government order to do so.

The provincial government had issued a notification requiring all public sector educational institutions to close for summer vacation from June 1 to August 31, and private institutions to close from June 15.

It was also notified that private institutions would reopen a week before the public sector institutions. The private schools, however, remained open and the officials concerned did not do anything to have the government order implemented.

The private schools had tried the same thing last year as well, but officers of the education department had made them comply with the rules. When asked, the staff of schools said they would close their schools for summer vacation in July and before that they would conduct exams.

"We have completed all the arrangements, and no one can close our school by force," said a principal of a school. Parents of the students demanded that the government order be implemented in letter and spirit.

Meanwhile, the private schools have imposed an extra fee on the students on account of exams, charging each student from Class VI to Class X Rs25 to Rs30. This fee is in addition to Rs30 imposed on each student as computer fee.
