BAHAWALPUR, June 28: Nine antelopes are reportedly missing from the breeding enclosure at the National Lal Sohanra Park, about 35 kilometres from here. The alleged disappearance of antelopes, valuing about Rs0.3 million, came to light recently.

Confirming their mysterious disappearance, Conservator of Forests Tariq Mahmood told Dawn on Monday that the total price of antelopes would be recovered from Game Watcher Jam Qasim and Forest Block Officer Zafarullah. He said the price of each antelope was Rs30,000.

On his complaint, he said the police had arrested two persons for the alleged theft of two antelopes from the Children Park last month while their two accomplices were still absconding. However, the stolen antelopes were not recovered.

BY POLLS: The Deputy Election Commissioner has finalized the arrangements for July 3 bypolls on three Punjab Assembly seats in the Bahawalpur district. It was learnt on Monday that a total 335 polling stations would be set up in PP-269, PP-275 and PP-276.

The ballot papers have already reached from Islamabad. The election commission has already appointed 335 presiding officers and about 800 polling officers. The training of the polling staff has also been completed.

Meanwhile, a meeting was held here on Monday to review the arrangements for maintaining law and order during the polling day. DPO Arif Nawaz, who chaired the meeting, said that strict measures were being taken to ensure free, fair and impartial bypolls.
