BAHAWALPUR, July 1: A lady councillor along with her four children sustained serious burn wounds when her husband allegedly threw acid on them at Qasim Town here on Thursday.

The Civil Lines police claimed that the incident was the outcome of a domestic dispute which developed between the couple after victim Shagufta had been elected councillor some two years back.

According to an FIR lodged by accused's elder son Waqas, a second year student, his father Arshad was jobless. He said his father would often quarrel with his mother over the financial matter.

On Wednesday night, they again fell out over the monetary issue. He said they were asleep when his father threw acid on all family members and escaped from the scene.

Complainant Waqas, his brothers Naqqash, Waqar and sister Fareeha also suffered injuries. While his mother Shagufta received seriously burn wounds. She was removed to hospital where her condition was stated to be critical. Civil Lines police have registered a case against the absconding accused.
