DADU, July 2: An alleged bandit, Mohammad Bachal Zardari, was arrested after an encounter between police and a group of bandits on the Dadu-Shaheedan jo Muqam road near here on Thursday.

This was announced by DPO (operation) Javed Alam Odho at a news conference at the press club here on Friday.

He said that he received information on telephone that the gang of Bachal was coming to Dadu city from kutcha area to kidnap someone. He said that he constituted a police party which cordoned off the area along the road and asked the bandits to surrender but they opened firing.

Police retaliated and after an hour-long encounter, Bachal, resident of Jam village in Mehar taluka, was arrested but his three accomplices escaped, Mr Odho said. He added that a double barrel gun and 30 cartridges were recovered from the possession of Bachal.

He said that he carried Rs500,000 head money and had been involved in many road robberies, kidnapping for ransom, murder and other heinous crimes in Dadu, Larkana, Jacobabad, Nawabshah and Naushahro Feroze districts since 1986.

ESCAPE: A murder accused, Dildar Solangi, escaped from the Thariri Mohabbat police station on Friday due to alleged negligence of the SHO.

KILLED: Four unidentified armed men barged into the house of Wazir Ali, held the inmates members hostage, shot Ali dead and escaped. Later, the relatives of the deceased, carrying his body, held a protest demonstration and blocked the Thariri Mohabbat-Mehar road. They were demanding early arrest of the killers.
