JACOBABAD/SUKKUR, July 7: The Chairman of the National Reconstruction Bureau, Mr Danial Aziz, said here on Wednesday that any attempt to destabilise the district government system would be foiled as this was a grassroots level government aimed at ameliorating peoples' problems at their doorstep.

He was talking to news men at the office of the district naib nazim here. Mr Aziz said that the 17th Amendment was discussed in a meeting attended by the prime minister and the four chief ministers of the provinces, along with other ministers, and it was decided that some major decisions about a constitutional amendment would be taken by the end of this month, to further strengthen the system, after the provincial governments give their suggestions.

He said to make the district government viable, concrete efforts would be taken to ensure that things are going on well with proper checks and balances, but was of the opinion that the system will take time to strengthen.

Mr Aziz said that in reply to a question said that, vested interests were propagating against the district government system. He warned that, those officers fabricating conspiracies against the system, will be dealt with severely.

He said that, some 15 meetings were held to decide on a better police system, and district government system, after which it is decided to make the police system and district government system even better.

He warned that strict action would be taken against those officers who were to destroy the good governance plan. He said that 15 meetings were held to reform the police system and major amendments have been introduced in the Police Order 2002.
