WORKSHOP: A two-day workshop on South Asia Vietnam Project on "Tripartism and Social Dialogue" started here on Thursday at the Sialkot Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI).
The workshop is being organized by the International Labour Organization (ILO) and the Workers Employers Bilateral Council of Pakistan (WEBCOP). The main aim of the workshop is to promote consensus building and democratic involvement of the stake-holders so that economic and social problems of workers could be solved.
Punjab WEBCOP convener Iftikhar Mahmood Randhawa said the maxim of the "survival of the fittest" could be applied in the field of business due to tough competition in the global market.
Only efficient enterprises would be able to survive on the international scene with commitment to satisfy the needs of customers, he added. He said the Sialkot industry has the potential to survive in the global market. Most of the local, small and medium industries have customers all over the globe.
"The concept of Social Dialogue is to understand the needs, aspirations and interests of all stake-holders. The movement cannot be a success without interaction between management and employees.
The WEBCOP initiative is a major step forward to meet the challenges posed by globalization and new world order to the national economy through concerted efforts." The workshop was also addressed by Rajen Mehrotra (ILO, India), S. P. Ahn (ILO, India) and Jajoon Coue, technical officer of ILO, New Delhi, and SCCI acting president Zahid Latif Malik.
