DADU, July 13: Inhabitants of 10 villages of the Dadu taluka held a demonstration outside the press club here on Tuesday to protest against Peoples' Party Parliamentarians MNA Rafique Ahmed Jamali for his alleged indulgence in nepotism.
They were led by village notables Ashiq Zaur, Mohammad Siddiq, Bakhshal Zaur, Haji Moharram and Mohammad Mithal Zaur. Speaking to the protesters, Mithal Zaur said that following an accident between a passenger pick-up and a coach, a jirga was held to resolve the matter between two groups of transporters.
Mr Jamali, reportedly supporting the pick-up owner who belonged to his clan, announced a fine of Rs500,000 payable to his clansmen, he said and added that the coach owner was not only innocent but also poor and unable to pay the exorbitant amount.
He warned that hundreds of PPP activists belonging to the Zaur clan would tender their resignations if the MNA forced the coach owner to pay the amount. The protesters appealed to PPP chairperson Benazir Bhutto to direct the MNA to refrain from interfering in the matter.
DEMO: Residents held a demonstration outside the press club here on Tuesday to protest against the district administration for cancelling the Sabzi Mandi and bus terminal projects.
Led by the office-bearers of the Citizens Action Committee, the protesters said that funds for construction of the said projects were not allocated in the district government's budget.
