BAHAWALPUR, July 15: The local police have announced stringent measures to stop the illegal sale of acid to arrest the trend of rising acid attacks in the Bahawalpur district.
DPO Arif Nawaz said here on Thursday that a procedure had been evolved to eliminate the illegal trade of acid and award deterrent punishment to the people involved in it.
He said under the procedure all the acid licence-holders had been directed to maintain the particulars of the buyers under the Poison Act 1919. Entries of their complete address, date and the purpose of buying the acid must be recorded.
The policemen, he said, had been asked to keep an eye on those indulged in the illegal acid trade. He further said that the DSP Legal had been instructed to personally pursue the cases of acid attacks in courts for the sentence of the accused.
The police had also been directed to expedite investigations into acid attack cases and submit their challans within shortest time in the anti-terrorism courts in the district, he added.
WARNED: Stage drama producers, writers, directors and actors have been warned to abide by the government's policy of providing healthy entertainment to the people.
A warning to this effect was sounded to them by DCO Imran Ahmad at a meeting held under his chairmanship here on Thursday. The DCO reprimanded them for displaying obscenity and using foul language in stage dramas. He warned that punitive action would be taken against them if they failed to comply with the arts council's rules and regulations.
NOTIFICATION: The Punjab government through a notification has constituted a 21-member district advisory council for the Education department here on Thursday. The council will work under the supervision of Punjab Education Minister Imran Masood.
It will be headed by MPA Mohtarma Sitara Fayyaz while Aftab Ahmed Patafi will be its coordinator. The committee will make recommendations to the government for the promotion of education.
