HYDERABAD, July 20: The University of Sindh, Jamshoro, and the University of Chittagong, Bangladesh, have started an "online supervising service" in the field of research.

The service has been launched at the Sindh university's National Centre of Excellence in Analytical Chemistry and the Chittagong university's department of chemistry. In this connection, professor Jamaluddin from the Chittagong University visited the SU's centre of excellence under the Ministry of Science and Technology's programme of hiring services of foreign experts.

Prof Jamaluddin, accompanied by the director of the centre of excellence, Dr Mohammad Iqbal Bhanghar, met vice-chancellor Mazharul Haq Siddiqui on Tuesday and discussed collaborative research work and joint guidance of academicians in different disciplines in both universities.

Prof Jamaluddin, who is supervisor of research fellow Humaira Khan at the centre, would also be the online supervisor of two other research fellows at the Sindh University.

As a part of this programme, one research fellow would be joining the centre of excellence from the Chittagong University in October. It is expected that mutual transfer of academicians would be extended to other institutes and departments of the universities.

A memorandum of understanding in this regard was recently signed by vice-chancellors of the universities. Under the MoU, the institutions would undertake joint projects in the field of chemical sciences.

UPGRADATION: The University of Sindh has upgraded its department of commerce to the institute of commerce, said a notification issued by the university registrar, Dr Saeed Ahmad Soomro, on Tuesday.
