SIALKOT, July 23: Passport seekers have protested against the shortage of blank copies in the regional office here. A large number of people said on Friday due to shortage of passport copies in Sialkot and Narowal districts , they were facing great inconvenience.
Narowal was made a district in 1990. Despite a lapse of 14 years, it has no regional office. Passport seekers have to come to Sialkot for getting passport. The people have urged the government to look into the matter and redress their grievances.
NULLAH AIK: The provincial irrigation department has started the work on a project of remodelling of Nullah Aik at a cost of Rs260 million. This was told to newsmen by Sialkot district Nazim Mian Naeem Javaid here on Friday.
After remodelling and desilting, the capacity of the nullah would be increased to 40,000 cusecs from existing 20,000 cusecs which would reduce the threats of flood, he added.
The government has decided to install 90 water filtration plants in the urban areas of Sialkot, Daska and Pasrur tehsils at a cost of Rs3 million. The Nazim said steps were being taken to provide clean drinking water to the residents of the three tehsils. After that each of 122 union councils of the district would get three water filtration plants, he added.
