RAHIM YAR KHAN, July 26: Scores of lawyers allegedly attacked the offices of the canal department here on Monday as a protest against the non-availability of water in Nul Wah Minor Canal.

Reports said District Bar Association President Abdul Mannan Bhatti along with 35 lawyers went to the irrigation SDO's office and protested against the unavailability of canal water despite orders of the superintending engineer in this regard.

Later, the protesters took the sub-divisional officer to the SE office and afterwards to the XEN office where they allegedly abused and beat him up. The SDO told the police that the DBA chief wanted to 'run' the canal against the warabandi system (water rotation).

On the other hand, Mr Bhatti alleged that the canal officials had enforced their own warabandi system and they were not providing water according to the official warabandi. "Those who pay extra charges get water and others remain deprived of their share," he said.
