LARKANA, July 27: The advisor to the Sindh chief minister, Sultan Ahmed Khuhawar, has said that just distribution of water between Sindh and Balochistan should be ensured.

Talking to farmers and journalists here on Tuesday, he said that he would convey the feelings of farmers of the Saifullah Magsi and SKT Shakh on the issue to the Sindh chief minister.

The farmers alleged that in connivance of the Sindh irrigation officials, Balochistan was receiving more than its water share which had cast negative impact on the farmers of Shahdadkot in Sindh.

The growers said that they did not object to the sharing of water shortage by Sindh and Balochistan but it should be done in a reasonable way. They said that it would not be justice to devastate Sindh's land at the cost of irrigating Balochistan's.

Superintendent Engineer of the Kheerthar Canal Mithal Abbasi said that the shortage of water was caused by reduced flow at the Sukkur Barrage, and predicted more shortage in the days to come.

Replying to a question, the adviser said that no dam would be built without consent of four provinces. A delegation of the Larkana Chamber of Commerce and Industry also called on Mr Khuhawar and demanded early recovery of Santosh Kumar, a kidnapped rice trader and president of Hindu Panchayat, Larkana district.

Meanwhile, EDO, health, Dr Abdul Wahab Wadho, while briefing the adviser, said that out of 111 healthcare facilities in Larkana district, the budget for 66 Rural Health Centres and Basic Health Units had been released.

He added that 45 health units in the district were being run without proper budgeting from the government. The adviser said that efforts would be made to get budget from the government.
