HYDERABAD, July 28: Hamish St. Clair Daniel, the Deputy High Commissioner of the United Kingdom in Karachi and director of the Trade and Investment , has said that the Kotri Site is an ideal industrial zone for foreign investments where great opportunities existed for joint ventures.
Speaking at a reception hosted by the Kotri Association of Trade and Industry (KATI) here on Wednesday, he said delegations from the UK, which would soon be visiting Pakistan, would be asked to invest in Kotri.
He said the tempo of investment in Kotri would increase if small units were established. He offered support to industrialists. He said he had visited different chambers of commerce and industry with a view to encouraging foreign investment.
The diplomat said the procedure for issuing visa had been streamlined and Pakistanis were being issued visas without any difficultly. In his welcome speech, the KATI chairman briefed Mr Daniel about the Site.
A large number of industrialists attended the reception. Mr Daniel also visited the British Institute of Languages and met its chairman, Farasat Ali Khan, and directors. He inspected various departments of the institute and promised help in the establishment of a library.
FALSE CASE: The Tandojam Shehri Action Committee has demanded that senior police officers should order release of Anwar Shahzad who has been falsely implicated in a narcotics case by police.
Speaking at a mews conference at the press club here on Tuesday, committee president Rao Abid Haroon Rajput, Nadir Hassan Gadi, Rao Hamayoon Akbar Rajput and other office-bearers said the District Public Safety Commission had conducted an impartial investigation into the case and recorded statements of union council members and area people.
They said the DPSC in its report had concluded that Mr Shahzad was innocent. They said the commission had also recommended action against Tandojam police station SHO Shahjehan Lashari and others.
They said to protect themselves, police through what they called undesirable elements had started a campaign against the commission and orchestrated protest demonstrations. They alleged that criminal elements were leading these demonstrations at the insistence of the SHO.
The action committee leaders said Mr Shahzad was a respectable person and the whole town was aware of the fact that he was not involved in narcotics trade. They said instead of taking action against the SHO and other police officers, the family of Mr Shahzad was being threatened with dire consequences.
They demanded that the provincial police officer and the regional police officer, Hyderabad, should award punishment to SHO Lashari, ASI Sher Mohammad and constable Mohammad Saleem. The committee leaders also distributed copies of a letter of DPSC chairman Masood Pervez, addressed to the DPO.
CHH: The Medical Super- intendent of the Civil Hospital, Hyderabad, Dr Hadi Bux Jatoi, has announced establishment of a management board for running newly-renovated private wards named day care centre.
He said that a committee had approved his appointment as life time secretary of the board to be notified by the provincial health department. He was speaking at meeting of the Patient Welfare Committee and later to journalists in his office here on Wednesday.
