BAHAWALPUR, July 28: An institute of cardiology will be established on the premises of Bahawal Victoria Hospital. This was given out by MPA and MMA's deputy parliamentary secretary in Punjab Assembly Dr Syed Waseem Akhtar here on Wednesday.

He said the cardiology institute would replace the present CCU ward and would also have the department of cardiac surgery. For this purpose, Dr Syed Waseem Akhtar along with BVH MS Dr Altaf inspected the proposed site within the periphery of the BVH on Wednesday. Besides, a kidney transplant centre would also be set up in the hospital.

It is expected that the Punjab government will soon announce the provision of funds for the proposed institute while its construction will be started during the current financial year. It may be mentioned that the government had already announced providing angiography machine to the CCU.

UPLIFT PROJECTS: Uplift projects costing about Rs750 million have been completed in Cholistan. This was stated by Cholistan Development Authority MD Maj-Gen Abdul Razzaq (retired) while inspecting a major project of laying of pipelines for supplying drinking water to Cholistanis and their livestock near here on Wednesday.

According to the MD, at least four water pipelines with a total length of 245 kilometres have so far been laid. He said the pipelines were laid from Mirgarh to Dhoori (45km), from Chak 107-DB to Khari (80km), from Chak 11/DNB to Nawan Kote (77km), and from Khutri Bungalow to Tofana (43km). In addition, he said some 92-kilometre-long roads and 110 water ponds had been constructed.
