MULTAN, Aug 1: Four people are said to have been electrocuted and several others injured after heavy rain in Multan and its suburbs on Sunday. The local meteorological office recorded the rainfall at 48mm, which continued for a couple of hours and left streets and roads inundated.
Of the four people electrocuted due to short-circuit, one Ramzan was identified as a fruit vendor on Tughlaq Road near Ghanta Ghar. Muhammad Younas fell victim to an electric shock on the Masoom Shah Road while 30-year-old Aji Begum was electrocuted in the Sabanwali Street near Haram Gate.
An unidentified teenager was electrocuted near the Hussain Agahi Bazaar when he accidentally touched the iron lock of a closed shop. The body was placed at the city mortuary for identification.
Ten people from a marriage party landed at Nishter Hospital after the roof of a marriage hall on the Masoom Shah Road caved in. Two persons had to be hospitalized when a wall of their house collapsed, near the Octroi Post-14.
FAISALABAD: It rained for a couple of hours here on Sunday and all the major roads, streets and markets were inundated as a result. Almost all streets and roads of Warispura, Allama Iqbal Colony, Samanabad, Nisar Colony, Nazimabad, Sharifpura, Naamat abad, Razaabad, Abdullahpur, Mansoorabad, Gulistan Colony, Nighebanpura, Ghulam Muhammadabad and Jinnah Colony looked like water-ponds.
The claims of Wasa about efficiency of its emergency centres and drainage of rainwater on an urgent basis proved hollow, as staff remained unavailable at the centres throughout the day. Over a dozen minor accidents were reported due to the slippery roads.
