SHEIKHUPURA, Aug 4: A protester was killed here on Wednesday by the alleged firing of a papers mills management over the dispute of discharging effluent into the Rajbah.
Reports said scores of residents of Babay Dha Kuttia, Kot Kaliaran and adjoining areas blocked traffic for four hours and gathered in front of Flying paper mills against the discharge of chemicals into the Rajbah.
The protesters expressed their concern over the health hazards as their cattle drank water from the Rajbah. The mills management to disperse the angry mob opened an indiscriminate fire. Resultantly Javed Kaliar suffered injuries and died at the Lahore Mayo Hospital.
Sadder area police reached the spot and cordoned off the locality. The protesters, however, dispersed on the assurance that stern action would be taken against the mills management. Further investigation was under way.
PO KILLED: A proclaimed offender was shot dead on Wednesday allegedly in an encounter near Ratti Tibbi, some 75kms from here. However, four accomplices of deceased PO Shaukat alias Shooka beat a retreat.
As per reports, a police party of Bara Ghar police station led by ASI Rafique was on patrol duty in a private car. As the policemen reached a deserted place, the armed robbers taking them as passers-by signalled them to stop.
Seeing men in the vehicle in police uniform, they became jittery and opened fire on them. Already on the alert, the policemen returned the fire. Consequently, PO Shaukat involved in some 60 heinous crimes was killed instantly while his accomplices managed to escape.
The deceased was wanted by Okara, Sheikhupura and Kasur police. The police also recovered a pistol from the deceased's custody. Meanwhile, the eyewitnesses described the encounter as fake. They claimed that the police had shot dead the PO and allowed his accomplices to flee after taking bribe from them.
RALLY: Residents of Rehmat Colony, Gujranwala Road and Machli Farm on Wednesday took out a protest rally against the negligence of doctors of the DHQ Hospital here on Wednesday.
The protesters alleged that one Allah Din alias Lahori, who sustained bullet injuries during a dacoity attempt early Wednesday morning, died in the hospital due to the negligence of doctors. They also chanted slogans against the hospital administration. Meanwhile, the B-Division police rushed to the spot and dispersed the angry mob.
