ISLAMABAD, Aug 4: Pakistan has emphasized the need for an urgent solution to the crisis in Darfur, said a press release issued by the Foreign Office here on Wednesday.
The press release said Foreign Secretary Riaz Khokhar, as a Special Envoy of the President of Pakistan, met President of Sudan, Omer Hassan Ahmed El Bashir, and Foreign Minister Dr Mustafa Osman Ismail in Khartoum on Wednesday and conveyed a message from the president of Pakistan to the president of Sudan regarding the situation in Darfur.
It said the president and the foreign minister of Sudan assured the special envoy of the desire of the Sudanese government to implement the United Nations Security Council and the African Union's resolutions on the matter.
They underlined, however, the unreasonable timeframe of 30 days in the UN Security Council resolution to undertake this enormous task.
The press release said Mr Khokhar conveyed the concerns of Pakistan and expressed the hope that an early solution to the humanitarian situation in Darfur would be found.
