LARKANA, Aug 10: Police on Monday night registered two separate FIRs against 143 people for allegedly running a gambling den and attacking the Shahdadkot police station, injuring DSP Ghulam Serwar Abro.

Two of the accused, Ghaus Bakhsh Magsi and Bahadur Brohi, have been arrested. SHO Abdul Hakim Bullo lodged the FIRs against the accused, including Mohammad Siddique Khoso, Mohammad Jaffer Khoso, Gul Hassan, Ali, Zaffar, Abdul Hafeez, Waheed, Imdad and Badar.

The cases were registered after a group of people allegedly stormed the police station following the death of one Ali Hassan Khoso during a police raid on a gambling den in the Allahabad locality of Shahdadkot.

Carrying the body of Mr Khoso, his relatives entered the police station and with batons and bricks, attacked the residence of the SHO where the DSP, who was present there, was injured.

Police resorted to aerial firing as policeman Abdul Sattar Brohi, Munwar Bhutto and another person were injured in the scuffle. The DSP was admitted to the Shahdadkot Taluka Headquarters Hospital.

The protesters dispersed after police fired tear gas shells on them. Mr Khoso was buried on Tuesday amidst protest by people of his clan, who demanded an impartial inquiry into the incident.

Primary teachers in the area also condemned the murder and boycotted classes. Relatives of the deceased said they would submit a complaint before the Sindh High Court if an FIR was not registered against the policemen concerned.
