SHEIKHUPURA, Aug 10: Two young women on-board a Lahore-bound wagon were kidnapped by four highwaymen on Tuesday morning near the Khanpur Canal bridge. After looting other passengers, the outlaws also hijacked the vehicle.

Although highway robberies are not new, the kidnapping of women has sent a wave of panic among the general public here who are clueless how to protect their honour besides property.

Police said a wagon carrying passengers from Sheikhupura to Lahore was stopped at Khanpur Canal bridge by four gunmen who were also on board as commuters. They made the driver to change the route.

Near village Wazira Virkan, the bandits alighted all the passengers except two women sitting on the front seat. After depriving passengers of their cash, they drove away with the vehicle. Police were yet to trace the vehicle and the women.

DIES: A prominent local transporter who sustained injuries in an accident on Sunday died at the Mayo Hospital on Tuesday. Ikramul Haq who was buried in a local graveyard, was the elder brother of Tehsil Nazim Mehmoodul Haq.
