JHANG: PMA raps denial of salaries

Published August 12, 2004

JHANG, Aug 11: The Pakistan Medical Association, Jhang chapter, has condemned the district Nazim and DCO for ordering the stoppage of salaries of RHCs and BHUs' para-medical staff across the district on account of absence from duty.

Talking to newsmen here on Wednesday, Jhang PMA president Dr Jahangir Naul and other office bearers said the district Nazim and DCO should send a survey team to these hospitals in the rural areas before taking such a harsh decision.

They alleged that pathetic and deplorable conditions were prevailing in these hospitals, making it practically impossible even for the toughest of the person to live and serve there.

Dr Naul said that some of the BHUs did not have even the basic facilities like the water and electricity. Similarly, there was no arrangement to protect the honour and dignity of the staff members. The female staff was particularly vulnerable to such hazards.

In this regard, a doctor present there gave the example of Sultan Bahu BHU, the home town of district Nazim, where the staff had to go to nearby fields to ease themselves due to worst sanitary conditions.

Another doctor posted at Shah Jewna RHC said that there were no medicines in the hospital to deal with the emergencies. The PMA president urged the Punjab chief minister to implement his decision of regularizing contract doctors and select doctors on permanent basis through the public service commission by doing away with adhocism.
