OKARA, Aug 12: Scores of Christians on Thursday took out a rally to protest resistance by a man to bury a youth in a cemetery. Reports said Akram Masih, son of Sohan Masih, passed away on Wednesday night.

His family reached the Christian graveyard at Basti Bohar where Zahoor Ahmad stopped them from burying the youth, claiming that the area of land belonged to him.

Agitated by unexpected resistance, the youth's relatives and other members of the community took the body to Mahboob Alam Chowk near Christian Colony and blocked traffic on the main road. They chanted slogans to give vent to their anguish.

City A-Division police SHO Sardar Jamil along with a team reached the spot and negotiated with the protesters who, nevertheless, took the body to the DCO's office at the district courts complex. They blocked traffic on the canal bridge leading to the complex.

DPO Syed Zafar Abbas Bokhari and tehsildar Khalid Siddique Kayana listened to their complaints and accompanied them to the cemetery where the youth was buried. Later, representatives of Christians told the tehsildar that two acres inside the cemetery had been occupied by grabbers and there were only seven kanals for burying people.

The tehsildar summoned the representatives and owners of the land to probe the matter.

MURDER: A rickshaw driver and his two accomplices killed a man over a dispute on Wednesday night. Reports said the wife of Abbas, a resident of Chak 5/4-L, got registered a Hudood case against rickshaw driver, Muzammial, who was on an interim bail.
