SUKKUR, Aug 16: A woman, her daughter and son were shot dead in the Jeevan Kobhar village in the area of Daharki police station on Sunday night. The killings were apparently caused by a four-year-old love marriage which was not approved by the family of the woman, according to police sources.

Some 15 armed men, said to be belonging to the Kanjoo community, entered the village, barged into the house of Mughal Kobhar and opened fire. As a result, a woman, Ferozan, 50, her daughter, Ms Irshad, 16, and son, Abdul Haq Kobhar, 25, were killed on the spot.

Mughal Kobhar remained unhurt as he was sleeping in another room at the time of attack. The attackers fled after committing the crime. Following the incident, the Daharki police picked up around 40 suspects and released 37 of them after interrogation. The remaining three have been detained but the police have declined to disclose their names.

Tension between the Kobhar and Kanjoo communities has mounted in the area following the triple murder. Police sources said that Mughal Kobhar had married Shamim against the wishes of her family four years back.

On the complaint of the relatives of Shamim, police had arrested both of them and sent the woman to a shelter house (Darul Aman.) She had been produced in the court where she had stated that she had married Mughal Kobhar of her free will. The court had allowed the couple to live together.

ACCIDENT: A police constable, Abdul Rehman Jatoi, 35, was killed and another injured after being run over by a truck in the Humayoon area, Jacobabad district, on Monday. Mukhtiar Ahmed Junejo, 40, was seriously injured.
