SUKKUR, Aug 24: Hesco, Sukkur and Larkana regions, issued detection bills for 11 million units to consumers in July to cover line losses, this correspondent learnt here on Tuesday.

People of Sukkur, Ghotki, Khairpur, Jacobabad, Shikarpur and Larkana districts who received the detection bills are approaching the company for correcting their bills. In Sukkur alone, Hesco issued detection bills for 200,000 units. Reports said the chairman of Wapda had taken a serious notice of the issue and ordered the SDO and executive engineer of Hesco not to send detection bills to consumers.

A committee, comprising the company's deputy commercial manager, deputy director, technical, executive engineer and the SDO, had also been formed to decide such cases and issue detection bills to only those people who were involved in electricity theft.

After this, there had been a decline in detection bills but in July, Hyderabad Hesco chief executive Adeebul Hassan Rizvi allowed the executive engineer and the SDO to issue detection bills, with the result that a surge was witnessed in the bills.

Sukkur Hesco chief engineer Yahya Bashir said the relaxation was temporary and orders had again been issued for formation of a committee for the purpose. He added that no detection bill would be issued without permission of the committee. It was learnt that Hesco was facing line losses of 15 million units.

Mr Bashir said the Liberty power plant was out of order for one month due to which Hesco observed load-shedding. He said Hesco was charging Rs4 million daily from the power plant as a fine.
