SWABI, Aug 25: The Zakat department will nominate 112 women members for the Swabi district on Wednesday, official sources said on Tuesday. The sources said that in each union council nine members, including two women, would be nominated with the consent of the area notables.

The women members, being involved in the process for the first time, would be empowered to give away Zakat to the deserving women in their union councils. There are 56 union councils in the Swabi district and there would a total of 112 members of the Zakat committees.

In each union council, the sources said, announcements had been made on the public address system that jirga members as well as ordinary residents of the locality should take part in the proceedings for the finalization of the nine-member Zakat committees.

The sources said that in each union council the nominated members would elect their chairman through secret ballot.
