BAHAWALPUR, Aug 25: The Jamaat Ahle Hadith has called upon the Baghdadul Jadid police to withdraw a blasphemy case registered against its activist about a month back.

Talking to newsmen here on Wednesday, JAH Bahawalpur amir Prof Muzaffar Ali Zafar (retired) said the police should desist from polluting the peaceful religious atmosphere.

He said that Amjad Khalid was a Muslim to the backbone against whom the Baghdadul Jadid SHO had registered a baseless case. He said the SHO, now under suspension in an attempted murder case, should be dismissed instead.

Mr Zafar said that his Jamaat would not resort to street protest but would prefer to take the course of legal struggle for the withdrawal of a blasphemy case. He said that a two-member committee comprising opposition MPA Malik Muhammad Iqbal Channar and rival religious group figure Haq Nawaz Qamar had failed to complete its task.

The JAH, he said, should have also given representation in the committee to resolve the matter. He alleged that Haq Nawaz Qamar had been pressurzing Amjad Khalid to admit his crime.

The JAH leader said that the withdrawal of the case was in the interest of the local population. Amjad Khalid of Chak 28-BC was arrested on July 24 on an FIR lodged against him by one Sohail advocate alleging that the accused had distributed objectionable pamphlets in rural areas.
