BAHAWALPUR, Aug 31: A union council Naib Nazim has allegedly grabbed for the second time the Tehsil Municipal Administration's land worth hundreds of thousands of rupees outside the Shikarpuri Gate.
Reports said UC 4 Naib Nazim Noor Muhammad Mayo, along with his several accomplices, occupied on Monday night the old Tonga Stand plot outside the Shikarpuri Gate by getting a wall constructed overnight. Noor Muhammad is alleged to have illegally occupied the land for the second time.
Earlier, when he took possession of the land, the district administration had to intervene to get it vacated. Now, the government official has got possession of the plot taking advantage of the absence of tehsil municipal officer (whose office is lying vacant after the transfer of Abdul Ghafoor Bhatti.
Tehsil Nazim Najeebuddin Owaisi is out of country these days and District Nazim Tariq Cheema is busy in political engagements in Islamabad. Tehsil Naib Nazim Malik Zahid Channar is currently serving as acting tehsil Nazim.
When contacted, Acting Tehsil Nazim Malik Zahid Channar said he would take action against the TMA officials, who helped Noor Muhammad get possession of the costly land. Meanwhile, people have demanded of the DCO to take action against the UC Naib Nazim for his illegal action.
CASE: Musafirkhana police on Tuesday registered a case against 16 people for alleged murder attack on Human Rights Commission of Pakistan district chapter's coordinator Jam Bashir Ahmad.
Jam Bashir had gone to Mauza Rangpur to probe an alleged gang-rape case when nearly 40 people attacked him. No arrest has been made so far. Meanwhile, the HRCP's Multan task force has set up a five-member committee to conduct inquiry into the incident.
